Rancho Sierra Vista Satwiwa

Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa blends coastal mountain trails, native history, and scenic beauty—perfect for hiking, biking, and connecting with nature in peaceful Newbury Park.

Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa is a breathtaking natural preserve located at the southern edge of Newbury Park, where the Santa Monica Mountains meet wide-open meadows and oak-dotted hills. Managed by the National Park Service, this historic site offers access to miles of multi-use trails, including the popular Sycamore Canyon Trail, connecting all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

At its heart is the Satwiwa Native American Indian Cultural Center, which honors the Chumash people who have inhabited the land for over 10,000 years. The center regularly hosts cultural demonstrations, educational programs, and seasonal events, making it a space for both reflection and learning.

Visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through its serene terrain, with panoramic views of Boney Mountain, a sacred site to the Chumash. Wildflowers bloom in spring, while the shaded creek beds and breezy grasslands offer year-round natural beauty.

Unlike typical parks, Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa is a place where history, culture, and nature converge—inviting both adventure and connection. It’s a favorite for locals and visitors alike who seek a deeper outdoor experience rooted in heritage and healing landscapes.
